kinder MODERN is a contemporary and vintage design gallery and design studio founded in 2013 by design entrepreneur Lora Appleton. Applauded for its foundation in inspired and historical child design, the gallery offers full collections of furniture and rugs for both residential and commercial projects. The kinder MODERN in-house design studio (aka studiokinder) designs and produces beautiful and functional furniture, objects, rugs and public space for children of all ages combining high-end construction with family utility. Filling the void in handcrafted quality furniture for little ones (ages 2-16) and their grown-ups, studiokinder’s mission is to investigate the development of a growing child’s mind and body and translate those needs into useful, luxury furniture. kinder MODERN engages dialogues in design through its thought-provoking gallery program and exhibitions. Their special collection of historical, rare child design pieces dating from the 1890s through the 1990s include design icons such as Hans Wegner, Ko Verzuu, Isamu Noguchi,  and more.

Lora Appleton, founder of kinder MODERN and the Female Design Council, is a leading voice in New York City design, paving the way for designers and makers with her meticulous design vision, nuanced collections, and curatorial leadership. Under her guidance, kinder MODERN has grown from an entrepreneurial gallery into a robust design authority, offering a full range of collections, from the epicenter of the home to commercial and educational projects. kinder MODERN pieces are also on view in the Brooklyn Museum’s permanent collection and in a number of prominent private collections.
