An historic 1935 Greek Revival cottage in the Clarksville neighborhood of Austin paired with a very creative family to provide the starting point for this project. Above and beyond the programatic goals the austinarchitect studio sought to create a home that honored the past while not being overly reverential. Some elements of the new construction, such as rebuilding the original roof 4′ above where it had been, are intended to look as thought they had always been there. Other elements of the new construction, such as the master bath wing and the dormers in front, are intentionally modern in their aesthetic. Hugh Jefferson Randolph Architects approaches each project as a collaboration between the architect and client. Starting with the goals and dreams of the client, they like to structure the early design meetings as brainstorming sessions, where everyone is given a voice, and all suggestions are given, considered, and explored.…

Chango & Co’s latest project, a new build in upstate New York created to serve as a weekend retreat for a young family, is 12,000 square feet of unexpected pops of color and pattern set against a more rustic, traditional backdrop. Warm woods meet punchy primary hues. Clean white backdrops are juxtaposed with bold, funky wallpaper. Traditional elements, like leather sofas and plaid printed throws, are thrown in the same room as contemporary mainstays, like emerald green built-ins and sleek brass furniture. A recent renovation of an underachieving ‘70’s-era ranch house is a testament to the magic that happens when an interior designer and a savvy client collaborate. For their seventh project –the Blanco River ranch house– Marcus Mohon served as both interior designer and architect. The native stone-clad clunker sat on a tributary that flows into the Blanco Ranch, with the river’s crystal waters and cypresses creating a parklike setting that’s the epitome of Hill Country bliss. “The house isn’t the jewel; the land is.” The top priority was to open the long and lean house to the view. Marcus replaced windows with steel sliding doors for easy indoor-outdoor access. Opening the sliding doors on either side of the house turns the main body of the house into one big breezeway, a nice return to an old-fashioned remedy for the Texas heat. They all use the property as a family retreat,…
This reconstruction and renovation residence in Mykonos is truly custom designed. The intense environment of the island made it a clear choice to calm down the somewhat loud exterior to create uniformity. As the original design lacked some comfortable resting spots, effort was put in providing those with the ability to choose depending on weather, time of the day and the mood. The guesthouse by the sea was renovated and extended with a private pool and a breakfast area, designed to give the guests the ability to enjoy the beautiful island mornings in privacy. However, the Greek habit of gathering around a grand meal was fortified as a large barbecue area was installed as well as a spacious dining area inside the main house. Justin Van Breda decided to turn an upside down suburban house into an Edwardian style villa, taking full advantage of the wonderful view out to sea and the spaces created by the gardens surrounding the house. Adding lines of tall french doors and shutters with mouldings instantly transformed the outside of the house and gabe an elegance to the inside when paired with the reclaimed strip wood floor. Plain off white linen loose covered upholstery to Justin Van Breda’s custom design and the entire house painted in a tone of blue- grey, with one tone deeper for millwork, created this muted and washed out background for a number of family pieces that came from the Edwardian and Victorian colonial periods. Special note should be made of the Rhodes gallery of black and white family pictures in the hall, in simple black reeded frames with large off white mounts, hung in…
This extravagant property, which came on the market by heimburger-immobilien.de is located on a gentle hillside in Weinheim’s central, yet pleasantly quiet district of Lützelsachsen. The extraordinary Bauhaus villa, advertised with Bauhaus monument protection, was realized in 1963 by the renowned architectural firm Jan and Waldemar Lippert. The interior of the building, which was built in the style of post-war modernism, is largely preserved in its original form. Coming from the street, you enter the architect’s villa at ground level via the upper floor. The almost 60 square meter light-flooded living and dining room has a continuous window front through which the view sweeps along the Rhine plain. The original fitted kitchen from Bulthaup from the construction period , was preserved in the style of the early 1960s and was only gently modernized. Enjoy the tour!!!! It is a brand new architectural modern home with beautiful natural light and modern finishes. The young family wanted a modern, serene and peaceful atmosphere with pops of color and a soft paint palette mixed with dynamic wallpapered accent walls. The designer, Margo Nathanson, mixed materials like marble, lacquer, metal, brass and resin to reflect a contemporary and sophisticated but playful aesthetic. She also chose some iconic furniture pieces like the dining chairs designed by Patricia Urquiola, and the Bauhaus style Utrecht lounge chairs, originally designed in 1935 by Gerrit Rietveld. She kept the upholstery kid friendly because it was important to the family that it was functional. The lighting fixtures are all carefully chosen, like the dining room light, meant to “float” above the table to keep the room light and provide a more sculptural than functional role. The design reflects the family’s personality and ultimately provides an ideal place to…
