A combination of concrete and wood dominates the interior design of this family house in Prague, Czech Republic. The interior provides a contemporary approach to living in light-filled spaces, along with playful touches. The client approached boq architekti Studio with a request for the interior design of a family house. The main element of the space is the concrete ceiling and oiled wooden floor. Three neutral colors intertwine throughout the interior. Those are white and anthracite grey in combination with natural wood. As a reference point in the centre of the living room the staircase elevated to an art element running through the glass railing. With the bookcase, the architects create a bold composition, within which moves a projection screen. Under the staircase there is storage space. The living space is variable thanks to a modular sofa, which can modify into three different compositions. The design of the kids’ room is…

The goal of this renovation was to create a stair with a minimal footprint in order to maximize the usable space in this small apartment so the key challenge for the studio was to install a conventional stair to access the upstairs bedroom in place of the existing steep ladder and still maintain an open feeling apartment since the existing living room was divided in two and contained a steep ladder to access the second floor sleeping loft. The client wanted to create a single living space with a true staircase and to open up and preferably expand the old galley kitchen without taking away too much space from the living area. Kimberly Peck and His ny2 inc’s solution was to create a new stair that integrated with the kitchen cabinetry and dining area in order to not use up valuable floor area. The fourth tread of the stair continues…

In one of the beautiful governors’ houses from the 1920s, we find this cozy second-floor home which, thanks to its airy ceiling height and surface-efficient floor plan, feels larger than the number of square meters indicates. Original details such as moldings, ceiling rosettes and cast iron radiators have been preserved, and in the living room and bedroom the wooden floors have been developed. A peaceful accommodation is offered, and outside the vaulted windows of the rooms there is lush greenery.  Photography : Jonas Berg Interior: Joseffsonl Jung  See also :https://house-diaries.com/stylish-black-and-white-apartment-in-goteborg/

Jost Architects took a classic weatherboard cottage located in St Kilda with a council Heritage Overlay and removed the previous 1980s extension to the rear. The two front bedrooms and bathroom on the ground floor, being part of the original main area of the house, was retained. The planning restraints meant that careful consideration was given to how the upper level area of the addition sat within the streetscape. The internal planning was extremely important as there was no room to build further back to increase the internal area of the house without severe detriment to the very small rear yard. With this setback maintained, the internal planning was crucial to improve the functional layout and also fit in a stair to access the upper addition. The existing rooms were refurbished retaining their original features and trims with new contemporary fixtures and fittings that are aesthetically appropriate. The interior finishes are selected…

Worn interiors, small rooms and lack of light were ruining the potential of this 3,000 sq. ft. apartment on Barcelona’s Avenida Pau Casals in Spain. Due to its elongated shape, the biggest challenge designer Ana Engelhorn faced was bringing natural light into the middle section. By changing the apartment’s internal layout, they were able to create a large, bright apartment with three bedrooms. They increased the master bedroom size and designed a multi-purpose space that includes a bedroom, dressing room, lounge, yoga room and bathroom. Three small rooms were transformed into an airy open-plan kitchen that flows directly into the dining room. When choosing furniture, fixtures and decor, they sourced quality pieces from across Europe. The overall appearance, however, has a decidedly English flair. They decorated each en-suite and the guest bathroom with Drummonds’ utilities and all the artwork is from Spanish artists in Madrid and Arco. The result is…

Edificio Huatusco consisted of renovating and architecturally recycling a 1940’s residential building in total abandon. The building has four different units configured around three courtyards on three levels, each unit has its peculiar layout and distribution. The main challenge for C2D Studio was to bring back this building to life through not only restoration but also redistributing the original layout. Although the building was a residential construction since it was originally built, the current lifestyle demands more flexible undivided spaces with better lighting and features such as exterior spaces like terraces or patios. To maintain the original appearance of the property the architects reclaimed and recycled a large part of the original materials and architectural elements like steel doors and windows, wooden floors or the quarry stone on the façade and details; achieving a contrasting balance by combining classical with more contemporary elements.( Published with Bowerbird.io) Photography : Mau Salas See also…
