A brutal interior with a free layout, eclectic details and interesting design solutions for a young man with great taste and a sense of humor by Aiya Design Studio.Their client chose an apartment “for himself” in an old housing stock in the Tishinka area. The interior turned out to be laconic, preserving the historical spirit of the exterior, with arched windows and original brickwork, which the designer restored whenever possible. The color palette includes a gray scale and a deep blue tint as an accent. In this project, the Studio wanted to emphasize the atmosphere of old Moscow, so they combined modern furniture with vintage and Soviet finds. The living room has a potbelly stove, a Soviet sideboard that can be used as a wine cabinet, and a turntable. The master bathroom has vintage-style tiles, and the dressing room doors are made of old Soviet canvases on a barn mechanism. Russian architect and designer Maria Marinina designed this beautiful home with a natural color palette. I like the open plan layout of the 62 sq m house as well as the use of textures. Cold materials (concrete) are mixed with warmer textures (wood and wool) which give a contemporary atmosphere. The rugs bring in warmth and a splash of color. Welcome to the world of Zen!!!! Melanie Beynon AD Studio designed this extension and renovation of a Northcote Edwardian home for a young family of six, which the owners skillfully managed and built. Their unique craftsmanship, material choices and dedication to detail resulted in a masterful design that feels generous and warm throughout. The house was planned with two zones (one for adults and one for children). Located at opposite ends of the house, the central living space connects the two areas. The newly built family living room is a voluminous and tactile space, featuring exposed Tasmanian Oak timber panels on the walls and pitched ceiling, complementing the reclaimed brick walls and handmade Anchor Ceramic tiles.Large sliding doors expose this spacious room to natural light, leading to a raised deck, great for outdoor entertaining. The tactile detailing extends to the exterior of the house and features a saw-tooth roofline, raw cedar shingles and shiplap cladding on…
During the boom of fruit exportation from Mallorca in the late 19th century, a wealthy French citrus merchant instructed Parisian architects to construct a property, with no expense spared. With such a healthy budget, the architects had the freedom to design a property that exuded opulence and used the finest materials from around the world.Brothers Monty and Archie Berrow established Berrow Projects in 2016 and they pride themselves on renovating properties to exceptional standards whilst expertly balancing contemporary finishes with thoughtful restoration.Canoneta Townhouse is no exception. The 610m2 property, which gets its name from the type of orange which fills its orchard, is currently being restored into a luxurious Mediterranean retreat. A wonderful blend of traditional stones, bespoke carpentry, exposed wooden beams, fireplaces and micro-cement flooring brings a comforting and homely feel to the property. A 14 meters long pool connects the entertaining area with the orchard beyond. The orchard…
Youthful spirit was injected into the traditional Castle Hill house by Tim Cuppett Architects, which suffered from the doldrums of previous renovations and additions. The first floor was reconfigured to enlarge the kitchen (and homework station for the family of six) as well as create two lounge specific spaces. The second floor was reorganized to create an additional bedroom and bathrooms. Colorful furnishings and playful lighting, inspired by the Owner’s art and craft collections, become the focal pieces within gallery white walls of the public rooms. Textiles and soft furnishings were selected to harmonize with the wall hung and floor installed art, specifically the Jan Kath covering in the Formal Living Room. The 2nd floor accommodates playful children’s bedrooms and Master Suite which is enveloped by a muted grey palette meant to invite repose from the otherwise vibrant symphony of color.( Published with Bowerbird.io ) Photography : Whit Preston See…
Located on one of the most elegant streets of Paris, where the major fashion stores and art galleries are concentrated, this apartment signed by Arthur Casas, co- authored by architect Marina Werfel, was designed to fulfill the wishes of the residents – a couple with two children – for practical, integrated spaces so they can welcome friends and accommodate a family life. The project’s biggest challenge was to connect the environments and, at the same time, respect the conditions of the building, adapting to the limitations imposed by the original structure of the apartment, which was preserved in its original aspect. The social area brings together, in the same environment, the living room, the dining room and the kitchen. In order to delimit each area, the furniture was arranged so it could define the project’s layout. The monochromatic palette and materiality guarantee the aesthetic harmony of this space. For the finishing, preferences…
Though her work in real estate had brought her to countless bay area homes, Regan Baker’s client knew something was different when she toured this 1920s fixer-upper in San Francisco’s Sea Cliff neighborhood. Drawn to the elegant curve of the entry staircase and the traditional moldings throughout the ground floor, she saw a space that was brimming with potential. She and her husband purchased the house and embarked on a full-scale renovation, seeking to blend her preppy aesthetic and his love of modern elements. Through the process, the designer helped them find a cohesive balance between their style preferences, creating a sophisticated, contemporary residence for her clients and their young daughters. Heirloom, antique furnishings are used throughout the home alongside more contemporary design choices that keep these spaces feeling fresh and bright. “Bold contrasts of light and dark colors, a powerfully curated collection of photographic art and well-placed family heirlooms…
For STUDIO JEROEN VAN ZWETSELAAR (interior design & styling ), when the designer is designing a home he looks at the soul of the house, the souls of those that live within its walls and the land that surrounds it. This home tells a story through its surroundings, the natural elements and the rebuild of the central wall – done in three layers – to showcase the history of the home. “I sometimes literally get the colors I use from the environment. This large farm is located in the polder, where the skies can be beautiful, sometimes ominously gray. Those skies inspired me, just like the fields and corn fields, so I chose a lot of natural tones. The farm has been transformed into a spectacular farmhouse by Bart Kellerhuis of Zecc Architecten. A new wooden volume has been added right through the house. All buildings, barns and stables on the…
Located on the bank of Shoal Creek, one of two primary waterways traveling through Austin to the Colorado River, Belmont Park consists of two weathered Douglas fir clad volumes designed by Tim Cuppett Architects. The wood volumes are connected by a transparent living room bridge which spans a cavern carved into the limestone plinth. From the motor court one chooses to enter the house across an elevated walk-way to the front door or descend by stair into the stone cavern to a covered porch and private entry below. Water captured from a natural uphill spring, mechanical condensate lines, and roof runoff flows through a runnel along-side the descending stair. The man-made canyon-scape and waterway celebrate the natural current of life to the creek below. Interior volumes echo the simplicity of the house, scaled for intimate family gatherings, and focused into the tree canopy which shades the site. Interior finishes consist…
The turn of the century details in this beautiful Swedish home are just amazing and renovated in a very nice way. The herringbone flooring was renewed and the moulding on the ceilings, walls, windows and doors renovated or partially replaced. I love the way the living room and dining room are connected with those beautiful doors for an open plan area and the daybed by the balcony works so nicely in combination with the floor lamp and the mirror reflecting the daylight. A perfect example of fantastic style…. See also :https://house-diaries.com/the-beauty-of-a-beige-interior/
On a hilly natural plot, with a secluded location high up among the treetops, you will find this villa dream signed by architect Rolf Löfström. The house is built with consistently timeless material choices. Exterior with horizontal falus black glulam panel in nice contrast to the rolled sheet metal roof with details in aluzinc. The interior of the house is interwoven with a floor of robust pine tiles from a sawmill in Dalarna as well as white-painted unplaned raw pontoon on walls and ceilings as well as exposed trusses. The boundary between outside and inside is blurred by generous window placement and a number of patio doors that open up to connecting balconies, terrace and plot. Enjoy the tour!!!!
