Brooklyn brownstone renovation creative couple Lyndsay and Fitzhugh Karol’ s newest project, a 6,000 square foot 5-story brownstone in Brooklyn Heights at 81 Pierrepont, has been meticulously renovated by their family run company The Brooklyn Home Company, a boutique design/development firm run by Lyndsay and her brother Bill Caleo. Lyndsay designed the interiors in collaboration with artist and her husband Fitzhugh Karol. They wanted to honor the historic bones of this 1845 Greek Revival townhouse while bringing in the liveliness and color of the Brooklyn art scene happening outside of its doors now. They lovingly restored original details like the crown molding and arched doorways, but one main focus was to modernize. They opened up the first floor to its full 25-foot-width, and added intrigue via a sculptural banister, mirrors, and custom furniture pieces created by sculptor Fitzhugh Karol and Philadelphia studio BDDW. The six-bedroom home has three exposures of light and views of one of Brooklyn’s most beautiful streets, which they maximized with a full wall of windows in the kitchen, plus a roof deck equipped with a full kitchen. Warmth and brightness come indoors with sustainable, reclaimed Douglas Fir timbers and white oak floors. Dual marble-topped vanities surround a free-standing soaking tub in the master bath. Sculptor Fitzhugh Karol is best Known for his public art works – Fitzhugh’s large scale metal sculptures are currently displayed at sites in Dumbo through next April. Fitzhugh’s site specific sculptural pieces and custom furniture are integrated into Lyndsay’s clean and warm aesthetic throughout the space. Additional collaborators include BDDW, with furniture pieces, pool table and art by Tyler Hayes. and Kinder MODERN who designed kids quarters upstairs. Photographer’s Matthew Williams shots are really impressive and inspiring….
