A Port Melbourne townhouse with city views was the new home of a young single male client. In Design International studio’s long-term brief was to convert this bachelor pad into a home more suitable for his ‘future wife & family”. Their short-term brief was to introduce a more contemporary ambience to reflect the owners’ personal style. They suggested a new front door and entry hall floor finishes, full gut and refurbishment of the kitchen and bathrooms including additional robe area to the master bedroom and reconfiguring the linen & broom closet as stage one.  The studio’s semi industrial style capitalises on current available trends in concrete looking surfaces, without the challenges of real concrete in a renovation situation. Selections of materials and finishes were all keenly channelled to reinvent the key areas of concern in this home. Almost monochromatic in their choices, a heavy use of greys, charcoals and blacks…

Casa H is a house on one floor, in the neighborhood of Las Letras, next to the Paseo del Prado in Madrid. The apartment is in a Gutierrez Soto building, from the 1950s, from the first examples of reinforced concrete structure in residential buildings. The building has a border position between the area of the museums of the Paseo del Prado and the scale of old Madrid in the Barrio de las Letras. LUCAS Y HERNÁNDEZ – GIL Studio made a comprehensive reform, since the house was very compartmentalized in rooms. A large open space was needed to include the owners art collection. The concrete structure of the building, which was left in its original form, gave the architect the flexibility to develop the new proposal. The difficulty of project was to get a space halfway between the house and the gallery, without losing the scale and comfort of the…

The task of Sergey Makhno Architects was to create an interior design for a Swiss businessman who fell in love with Kyiv during business visits. The space would be a comfortable 5-star hotel and a cozy home at the same time — a place to feel comfortable both in the company of friends and alone. The main challenge was the complex redevelopment: it was necessary to unite three radius apartments into one coherent apartment that would not look like a crescent. So the interior was made in the style of Ukrainian Contemporary, which combines Ukrainian traditions and modern design. Wallace Neff was the man who shaped the idea of what movie-star life looked like. He’s the architect who built mansions for Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks, Cary Grant, Charlie Chaplin, and more. Hancock Park in central Los Angeles is a neighbourhood known for its distinctive 1920s residences and its famous inhabitants that include past and present Hollywood stars and other celebrities. Neff took his inspiration for this French neoclassical-style house, built in 1960 in Hancock Park, from the famous Claude-Nicolas Ledoux-designed Pavilion de Louveciennes, constructed in the late 17th century. The house was grandiose, fussy and over-decorated so designer Christos Prevezanos of Studio Preveza assisted with modernizing and lightening up the atmosphere. The original property contained some Arts and Crafts influenced decorative aspects, which the owners were keen to retain and highlight, while introducing contemporary interventions. The main feature, a double height library space at the heart of the house designed by Platform 5 Architects , was created by combining the original rear reception room and a first floor bedroom. The feature staircase, wrapped in oak bookshelves, leads up to a built-in desk and study area with views over the ground floor. To the rear of the house, a side extension to the existing kitchen was formed by resting an oak rib and skin structure, externally clad in zinc, onto the brick party wall. A cosy seating area with slide-away corner glazing creates a space where you feel surrounded by the garden. That is not an issue for Kelly Hohla since through travel, experience, and education she has developed a love for many forms of design ranging from contemporary eclectic mixes, to classic architecture with fresh updates. All of her interiors, whether contemporary or traditional, focus on attention to fine details and craftsmanship, proportion, space and light, well-edited forms and materials, high style, tailored comfort, and a little unexpected edge. Curated color and comfort here is a clear focus on attention to fine detail, proportion-space and light with well edited materials.
