Rippleside house involved the careful renovation of the existing heritage-listed cottage and the provision of a new addition, comprising multiple living zones and garage. The aesthetic approach from Lachlan Shepherd Architects was to “shadow” the existing built form with a new steel structure, clad in Colorbond Monument “nailstrip” profile sheeting.Essentially, the new dark built form acts as a counterpoint to the white existing (heritage) structure and provides subtle visual cues to the old dwelling. While modest in size the new owner of this west village space wanted it to be big on impact. To achieve this Kimberly Peck decided to make the fireplace wall the focal point of the apartment. Symmetry was achieved around the fireplace with a continuation of the kitchen base cabinetry and counter to ceiling stone clad walls behind floating shelves on either side of the fireplace. The dramatic beauty inherent in the natural veining of the stone is juxtaposed against the neutral color and slight texture of the stucco finish on the fireplace. Overall the apartments is a study in tone on tone coloring; showcasing various light shades of taupe contrasted with black accents throughout. Instead of a conventional door Interior Finishes Studio opted to custom fabricate a blackened steel and vintage glass sliding door. The door was hung on barn door hardware and mostly remains open in order to…

Michigan avenue is a blurry, distant memory when the clouds are your neighbors. So if you live up in the clouds your home should be as striking as your surroundings. Project Interiors’ clients built a business empire and craved a sophisticated retreat to play, meditate, entertain, relax and let it all melt away. ” A chic exaltation of refined and rebellious: oaxacan pottery, paintings by Picasso + Warhol, lighting fashioned from bike chains, a lounge that doubles as a playground; a yoga studio with a floating lucite daybed cloistered by walnut slab doors; there’s winding corridors with pots of decorative gold at the end of every rainbow. It’s 4,000 square feet of architectural prowess, like Dr. X with design chops”. See also :https://house-diaries.com/a-complete-gut-renovation-of-a-1920s-harold-zook-english-cottage-style-home/

Capitalising on a generous floorplate combined with the soaring ceilings and clerestory lights of a re-purposed industrial building, this inner city apartment is an innovative pied-a-terre that breaks free from typical apartment living. The architectural response of Sparks Architects Studio is essentially a house, garden, and terrace – all within the original warehouse shell. The industrial aesthetic of the hot rolled steel plate cladding around the cocoon contrasts with the warmth of timber detailing to provide a strong, sculptural counterpoint to the light (and art!) filled gallery space of the original shell. The journey from the front door of this apartment, within a building of conventional loft-type conversions, is an adventure of changing textures, levels, brightness, and culminates in the large open living space which looks out over a small balcony or back inside to a vibrant light-filled space.(Published with Bowerbird). The renovation of the residential apartment for a family of two has started from the total trust between the clients and the architect Rina Lovko . Situated on the twentieth floor of the residential building in Kiev, the apartment’s location provides an astonishing view over the Dnieper River. Thus, the project was entitled Parus, meaning ‘the sail’ in Ukrainian. The centerpiece of the apartment is a window steel – a 6 meters glazing system with a sliding opening that allows the habitats to admire the view on banks of the Dnieper river. To underline the apartment’s location, the architect tried to maximize the solar openings. Considering the elongated layout of the apartment the architect had to remember that from all points of the back room and the corridor, the client should see the main picture of the apartment – the landscape outside the window. Thus, the dull corridor was turned…

PV2 is a house in the expansion district of Madrid, close to Retiro Park, in a building of the late nineteenth century.Originally, Estudio Lucas y Hernández-Gil found a house with a marked longitudinal character, fully compartmentalized and connected by a large corridor. The firm strategy consisted on the joint of the spaces giving absolute value to the lineal development of the facade with its nine balconies (something unusual in this type of house, that are usually deep and with a little bit facade). There was made a clear division between night spaces (3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms) and the day area, in which the living, the dinning room and the kitchen coexist in an only and continuous space. This is an open and bright space that is only divided by the fireplace that slightly differentiates the living room. The studio pretended a dialog with the original architecture through the material. The use…

Loreto Balbuena and Cristina Afán de Ribera are the decorators (and stylists) of this beautiful house. What does this almost story house tell us? Its structure and hidden potential convinced an Irishman who dreamed of a house in Marbella, but with the authentic Andalusian character of the south : a rustic wooden door, unique white beams, a soft range of gray and beige tones and a lot of plants framing the house.
