It was poky and dark but had great bones and a charming garden outlook. As the former headquarters of the Victorian Railways, the Hotel had a proud civic façade and a graceful central staircase.The architect set out to create a spare but generous and welcoming home for his client, celebrating the 1880s splendor of the building. First, they removed the half height partitioning walls to open the volume into an open plan kitchen and living-dining room. This ample new space allowed for flexible furniture configuration and garden views from their award-winning Drop Leaf Table, custom designed for this apartment. The vision for Ocean Bluff was to create a luxurious oceanfront property that complemented the natural beauty of its surroundings. Awarded in January 2016 and completed in January 2020, the project began as a partial renovation and evolved into a whole gut, remodel and addition onto a 10,000SF home in South Surrey. It features an open floor plan to create multi-use spaces and is outfitted with custom designed furniture and thoughtfully curated artwork by Madeleine Design Group. Madeleine’s passion for finishing carpentry and millwork is showcased throughout the house, especially in the meticulously designed wall panelling in the study. Her involvement is felt right through to the art on the walls. While the decor was finalized, the homeowners were on a three month trip.
