The apartment exudes a pleasant calm and especially the kitchen is an oasis, not least when the huge cherry trees outside the windows bloom in the spring. With the white, thick walls and a wonderful light, it feels a bit like living in a gallery. The living room, bedroom and kitchen have whitewashed wooden floors, and the level differences create an interesting spaciousness.  The two spacious rooms are lined with black glass-framed industrial doors in New York style in between. A wonderful accommodation is offered, and the neighborhood’s courtyard environment is like a private park with well-kept plantings, exciting height differences and many seating areas placed in different places. Interior designer Belén Domecq has created a subtle and elegant mix between rural and Moroccan style in her country house in Toledo, Spain. Inside you can breathe the essence of the place thanks to the gabled ceilings made of the typical heather and rockrose wood of the area or spaces preserved almost the same as in origin, such as the one next to the kitchen with two stone benches. stone and a fireplace where livestock keepers used to sleep.  In the newly built U-shaped wing, Domecq has opted to open and let in light and views through iron and glass enclosures that almost make it a gallery furnished with pieces that speak of an elevated field, such as a 16th century tapestry. The Grant Park House began with a classic Atlanta craftsman style bungalow in the historic Grant Park neighborhood that was in need of significant repair. The extensive renovation to the roof that was required allowed ARCHITECTUREFIRM studio for a complete reconceiving of the home in plan and section, creating a new sky-lit single volume and wide open living spaces with a lofted floor above the more intimate bed and bath rooms. The dark exterior conceals a glowing, bright white interior that reflects the light of the day and seasons and, in tandem with the skylights, gives a sense of the shifting color, angle, and physical presence of the daylight. The honest material palette exposes moments of new wood framing within large expanses of soft white and plaster walls, creating a quiet backdrop for the life lived in this home and the visual dynamics of the southern sun. A three-storey Bed-Stuy brownstone is revived with a blend of modern Swiss flair and traditional New England spirit for an art professor, a sound engineer in film and their young child. Nathan Cuttle helms this first solo project where he and his team at Studio Nato oversee the transformation of this 1899 brick rowhouse, a cross between Italianate and Federal styles. Their intervention gives new energy to a space for creative inspiration and casual living, reflecting the couple’s respective cultural histories and sensibilities. The original front façade was restored in relationship to the historical context of the neighborhood; most elements of the existing architectural style remain while some of the period details were revitalized. A facelift is given to the rear with a new stucco finish; additionally, larger windows and new skylights are introduced to bring in natural light and give the space a bright and open feel. Vestiges of…

Las Perelli studio created a modern home while retaining the spirit of a country mansion and elements of country life. The main role here belongs to the white color, which amazingly transformed and cleaned the space. The original masonry and wood texture stand out beautifully against its background. Old and aged furniture is also very well inscribed in the look of the house; against a white background, it seems to come forward and plays a major role.  Photography : Montse Garriga See also : https://house-diaries.com/grand-family-apartment-in-white-tones/

Located in one of the top buildings in Curitiba, the apartment was designed for a foreign couple who see this city as its own paradise amid a routine of international trips. Schuchovski Arquitetura designed a luxurious yet very contemporary environment, so they chose noble materials, such as white marble, on the floor, and nero madero marble highlighted in the fireplace. They also developed an exclusive joinery work, using a slatted panel, which envelops several walls and creates a circulation axis. Metal details – from rosé stainless steel in light release profiles to handles designed especially by Schuchovski Arquitetura to give originality and personality to the apartment – amplify the feeling of sophistication. In response to their challenges, they have also created a mixture of sophisticated materials – leather, suede and velvet – in contemporary furniture by Artefacto. Chandeliers and selected artworks complete the concept. Finally, to respond to the desire for integrated…

Creative people yearn for environments that inspire, sparking conversations that lead to inspiration. Such was the brief for Paul’s Place ; a home that welcomes both work and play, blurring the line that divides them and facilitating the creation of art. The originally up-cycled and relocated 1950s house has been completely renovated to its present utilitarian form, with features that hint to the accomplished script writer and producer residing there. Hidden among the coastal tea trees and banksias of Rye, a seaside town on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia, known for its rugged coastline and calming bay. The house still maintains its weatherboard facade that plays tribute to its roots. Although a long way from the original dark box-like layout, interior designer Nicole Rutherford from The Stylesmiths, “has been able to retain and incorporate elements of the past in a completely modern way,” says Paul, the proud owner. It would…

”An extension by DHaus exploits the triangular shape of the house’s plot, while Rhonda Drakeford of Darkroom has playfully inserted colourful angular motifs throughout.” Tucked away on Highlands Close, a short walk from Crouch End village, is this unique four-bedroom house with large private garden. Originally built in the 1980s, it has been the subject of a recent extension by DHaus. The house is positioned at the end of its terrace and is formed of London brick stock, set back behind a well-maintained communal area with raised brick planters. Access is gained via a partially raised ground floor. Inside, the proportions have been opened up and natural light encouraged deep into the plan, via skylights in the kitchen and a large set of folding doors which open onto a garden at the rear. These areas form the heart of the house, encompassing the DHaus-designed kitchen with raw stone floors and…

Positioned on a hilltop overlooking the iconic Bells Beach Surfing Reserve, the Bones House by Lachlan Shepherd Architects involved alterations and additions to the existing dilapidated 3 bedroom residence on site. The existing footprint was largely re-used, with components of the original dwelling retained, whilst at the same time, completely re-imagining the building. The brief called for a refined home with a highly detailed application of material, but with a comfortable, warm aesthetic. The response was to utilise an earthy, textural palette to harmonise with the surrounding environs, essentially appearing as though the “re-imagined” building had always been there.
