Hand-chiseled stone, wrought iron and antique wood introduce a deep sense of history into this elegant Austin home by designer Marcus Mohon. “There’s a little bit of magic to this house,” designer Marcus Mohon says of the southern European-inspired home he decorated for a couple in Austin.”It makes you want to sit down and linger.” Overlooking Barton Creek, the spacious abode exudes approachable old-world elegance through cozy furnishings and mottled-stone walls. “Every space is stylish but comfortable,” the designer says. “We eliminated the concepts of ‘formal’ and ‘informal’ from the interiors.” Photography: Dror Baldinger
Inside a century old structure initially built for automotive assembly and display, the Vladimir Radutny Architects Studio renovated a residence that was poorly functioning as a domestic space. In resolving the spatial problems inside this impressive volumetric shell the architects crafted a living environment that evokes mental wellness and inspiration within. Now, as one enters this dwelling through a low, wood clad transition zone the overwhelming feeling of being inside a large industrial room is very much subdued. Scaled architectural components, material restraint and theatrical lighting throughout, lessens the overall spatial dominance, while openness and clarity of space is maintained. Enjoy the tour!!!! Here is another extension project by Campbell Cadey Architectural Studio. The extension was planned so that in style and materials it resonated with the rest of the house. It was built from restored brick, similar in shade to the old building. Part of the new walls was plastered so that they fit with the windows of the building. In a white block with a panoramic window, reading benches were made inside and outside the house. A cantilever takeaway at the top of the extension is made to create a shadow above the resting place. From the side of the street in front of the bench they put a fire bowl, next to which you can arrange family gatherings. Campbell Cadey Studio was established in 2016 to bring together the principles of architecture with urban design and landscape, creating spaces that will both help and inspire the people living, working and playing in them. They strongly believe that great architecture…
I bet most of us have seen that photo in social media. Mrizi i Zanave is a hotel and restaurant set on a countryside in Albania. Located in the village of Fishte, in the region of Zadrima, Mrizi i Zanave (fairy tale) certainly lives up to its name. The area was the birthplace of Gjergi Fishta, one of Albania’s great poets and Zadrima is famous for its handwoven, colourful, and ornate textiles. . There is this beautiful building that has a glass window between the broken stone wall. It also features a warm and cozy wooden interior designed by Plisatelier. Transferring old stone building into modern housing has become popular recently in Europe and East Asia since stone structure often lasts for centuries. A renovation can bring those histories and memories back to life. Take a ride!!!!

The three-storey, 17th-century skinny house in Antwerp, Belgium, is 2.4 metres wide on its smallest facade. It was bought by a couple who stumbled across the property while visiting the old city centre. It was designed by Belgian architecture firm DMVA as a cross between a holiday home for its owners and a tiny ,luxury hotel with just one double bedroom and internal spaces connected by a “promenade” of staircases. The “one room” hotel isn’t one room, exactly. An open-tread staircase leads from one floor to the next, each of which has its own function. The basement is the kitchen, the first floor is the lounge, the second floor contains the bathroom, and the third floor is where the main bedroom and sauna are located. This project, by balbek bureau, was completed on a small budget, with tons of love and undefeatable sense of humor. balbek bureau is an architectural interior design bureau based in Kyiv, Ukraine. For 12 years’ experience in designing bespoke commercial, corporate and residential facilities, they have been building their community of socially-sustainable spaces. This apartment is only 40 sq. m. When working on modest budgets the designers encourage scaling back to a bare minimum, without which a comfortable existence would be impossible. In this case, for instance, they left the walls unchanged, just cleaned and thoroughly dusted them. The entire budget load was directed at replacing and preparing those areas where the owner spends most of his time. They installed wide double-glazed units instead of old windows in the office. The kitchen cabinets, although tiny, were made of stainless steel to high quality and performance standards, based on a modern…

Design, sustainability, restoration, enhancement, interior design, photography, procedures, enterprise. These are the themes the partners of Officina 8A Studio are focused on everyday. The key theme of this recovery presented here, is the discovery and consequent enhancement of the existing architectural elements of value. Elements, such as frescoed ceilings, frames, openings, have regained power and play the role of background and at the same time protagonist in a modern apartment. The living area finds its natural identity in a vast space with an angular view of the street: here there is a living room, dining area and kitchen without any interruption or limit. The bedroom plays with the theme of extrusions: a double mezzanine lifts the bed onto a podium.
