These apartments interiors have been informed by the village life of South Yarra and the urban lifestyle that flourishes in the surrounding streets – the neighbourhood is a secluded enclave of cultural experiences: libraries, galleries, cafés and boutiques. Material palettes reflect two sides of this coin: the garden, with green marble and dark timbers, or the gallery, a soothing blend of blonde woods and grey marble. Spatially, a series of rooms flow into each another creating a long gallery-like configuration. Custom joinery elements and detailing have been designed to enable you to communicate your individual narratives – collections, art, tchotchkes – the objects that tell the story of who we are. This is an Elenberg Fraser definition of luxury, permissive architecture that gives you the freedom to express your unique identity and to curate your own life. Local artist Jamie North has been commissioned to create sculptural works for this…

Concrete Blonde is an updated Annandale cottage that unfolds from a modest heritage façade to a generously spaced home, warmth expressed through earth tones and natural materials, capturing light through its skylights and courtyard well. Carter Williamson Architects’ main challenge was to create a generous, light filled home on a tight 5m wide block with a south facing yard, while still maintaining the heritage exterior and its place, aesthetically, within a row of eight homes from the same era. This is why Concrete Blonde is a carefully crafted home that uses every inch of space to its advantage, a modest addition unfolding from its original facade and sitting at the same height as its neighbours. A palette of concrete and light brick were used along with custom timber furniture. The greens through Concrete Blonde are a nod to the native gumtrees swaying in the backyard, the homes former kitchen colour, and…

Ilaria Miani and Michael C. Cioffi had a vision to restore the village and to introduce culinary innovations such as their restaurant Oreade and their Enoteca (wine shop) while bringing about a cultural Renaissance to the area. They designed Monteverdi to be a place where people could come to explore a new culture, indulge their curiosity and to engage with others all the while keeping the comforts of a magical Italian Villa. The project was guided by a strict avoidance of folkloristic restoration techniques, in not wanting to turn the village into a tourist cliché. You can book Hotel Monteverdi here!!!! Delia Kenza is a Brooklyn-based interior designer who specializes in complete renovations of urban living spaces. She officially launched her career in home design nine years ago, putting her stamp on a diverse range of projects. Preferring bold, clean lines, natural materials and a neutral palette augmented by carefully chosen color accents, Delia creates custom interiors with a very modern aesthetic that incorporates subtle touches of the past. This parallel appreciation for the past and present results in a delicate, comfortable and thoroughly pleasing balance that bucks current trends, is never static, and relies on her organic sense of what works. Drawing inspiration from “almost any physical source” around her – Delia is influenced by everything from an evening spent at the ballet to a museum exhibit. Rippleside house involved the careful renovation of the existing heritage-listed cottage and the provision of a new addition, comprising multiple living zones and garage. The aesthetic approach from Lachlan Shepherd Architects was to “shadow” the existing built form with a new steel structure, clad in Colorbond Monument “nailstrip” profile sheeting.Essentially, the new dark built form acts as a counterpoint to the white existing (heritage) structure and provides subtle visual cues to the old dwelling. While modest in size the new owner of this west village space wanted it to be big on impact. To achieve this Kimberly Peck decided to make the fireplace wall the focal point of the apartment. Symmetry was achieved around the fireplace with a continuation of the kitchen base cabinetry and counter to ceiling stone clad walls behind floating shelves on either side of the fireplace. The dramatic beauty inherent in the natural veining of the stone is juxtaposed against the neutral color and slight texture of the stucco finish on the fireplace. Overall the apartments is a study in tone on tone coloring; showcasing various light shades of taupe contrasted with black accents throughout. Instead of a conventional door Interior Finishes Studio opted to custom fabricate a blackened steel and vintage glass sliding door. The door was hung on barn door hardware and mostly remains open in order to…
