A Wayne Gillespie home that was tastefully extended by Watson Young Architects , this U-shaped home provided a fabulous canvas to design a special home for these clients. The client brief reiterated that first and foremost, this was to be a family home. With 3 children under 5, practicality was key, though just as important was a spot for mum and dad to unwind with a glass of wine! The palette used by Lisa Buxton Studio was soft, with pale colours throughout while not forgetting the famous Gillespie brass. Each of the kids’ bedrooms reflect their individual personalities, but were carefully designed to grow along with them (Published with Bowerbird). Børge Mogensen, one of the pioneers who laid the foundations for Danish design as a furniture design culture, was one of the most influential Scandinavian designers in general and one of the co-founders of the Danish brand Fredericia in 1955. His biography is truly impressive, and the legacy he left us great. The house of Børge Mogensen, presented here, is located on Soløsevej in Gentofte. It was designed through Mogensen’s collaboration with architects Arne Karlsen and Erling Zeuthen Nilsen and enriched with many of his most famous design works. The very location where it is located was known as the “architectural swamp” due to the fact that many esteemed names in architecture lived in the picturesque neighborhood during the 1960s. Fredericia, a brand with which Mogensen worked closely from 1955 until his death in 1972, recently furnished the house with classic designer-signed furniture. With a few modern upgrades, the BM…

The house by Yana Prydalna, planned to be built in the middle of the forest in Lake Tahoe, California. The concept is created for a weekend vacation in the woods for two people. The designer’s task was to use the maximum amount of wood so as to create a feeling of nature inside the cabin and enjoy the starry sky on a small porch on California summer evenings. Creating interior design from natural materials is always the best not only for aesthetics but also for inner pleasure.Thermo wood in this project is the main material and at the same time serves as a background for filling. The main part of the filling in the living area was in front of a metal fireplace (Electric type) placed a huge sofa made of wooden beams, which is very symbolic for forest houses. The structure itself pushes the owners to leave all the gadgets…

A two-storey log cottage in the Ulyanovsk region, by Lavka-design, built and decorated at the request of a friend. The project was interesting and large-scale – it lasted as long as 3 years – because the work was carried out mainly in the summer, and in the winter, friends selected finishing materials and furniture, communicating remotely. The game was worth the candle: a chalet-style family country house with ethnic elements became for the customer the embodiment of an old dream, and for the designer – a place where she is always welcome to visit. This design definitely sets the standard for luxurious, relaxing rural getaways and provides plenty of design inspiration! A complete renovation and transformation to bring back the old charm to a dark & tired Early Victorian end-of-terrace house in Notting Hill, London. The aim of the project was to renovate an Early Victorian ‘End-of-terrace’ house in desperate need of modernisation. The house hadn’t been renovated since the 1980’s, had a very plain finish all over and had lost most of its original period charm. The aim of Brosh Architects Studio was not only to upgrade the property to modern living but to bring back some of the charm that was lost due to many renovations throughout the years. For the floors, designers used distressed and damaged oak flooring with old English finish stain so it would look like it has been there for the past 200 years. Even though the house was built in an early Victorian era, it was designed by the Georgians and therefore they wanted to use…

It is in the convergence between ancient tradition and current technology that Japanese architecture is found, where tradition composes the ambient with the permanence of the oldest habits and customs and the technology presented in a minimalist way, enhancing the surroundings. Combining innovation, quality, originality and color, the Iong House project by TN ARQUITETURA, stands out right at the entrance with a “blue box” that prepares the visitor, leaving the highlight for the living room. In the center is a bookcase for objects and books that divides the space following the double height. A circular cellar is the main protagonist of this space, its mixture of colors and shapes ensures personality and boldness so desired by the client. In short, the apartment is the perfect result between the marriage of the client’s strong personality and the creativity of the architecture firm in translating it in the best possible way, in…

The Russian interior design studio INRE has created for its clients, the owners of an architect’s house located in the woods, a decoration for a dark Christmas, inspired by the surrounding nature. The dry wood and the simple ornaments give a magical and atypical atmosphere to this interior whose spirit of the end of the year holidays perfectly matches the original atmosphere.  Photo: Sergey Krasiuk via PLANETE DECO

For Three Tavern’s second location, conceived as equal parts brewery and laboratory, the brand new Imaginarium explores the curious nature of craft brewing. Located in the historic Atlanta Dairies adaptive reuse development a mile from downtown, the volume of the selected space was perfect for the requisite large stainless steel brewing tanks. Square Feet Studio’s biggest challenge was working with the small but very tall footprint and accommodating their client’s desire to have more seating than their first brewery. So they designed a mezzanine that allows the beer-making process to be viewed from different vantage points, each offering its own particular experience. Structure for the upper level was carefully coordinated in and around the brewery’s production area to maximize functionality and safety. Each seating area allows for different vignettes and moods, all with little moments of discovery. To complement Three Tavern’s well-loved interpretation of traditional Belgian-style beers, designers embraced a…

Designed by Kiev-based architect Emil Dervish, ED_OFFICE gives us a glimpse of the firm’s creative world, where the magic happens. The building features incredible architectural detailing including high ceilings with beautiful mouldings, tall arched windows and herringbone flooring. A marriage of modern and traditional, I love how the original details and raw finishes contrast with contemporary furniture and lighting. Niche Interiors’ sophisticated clients were drawn to traditional details, global influences and saturated color. So designers incorporated each of these elements in an intentional way, with the goal of creating a home that was distinctive, layered and that felt collected over time. The charming 1920’s home sits on an idyllic property in the Peninsula. Their clients called in Niche Interiors and Andrew Mann Architecture to reimagine the space for their growing family. Peacock lacquered walls in the foyer and celestial wallpaper in the powder room create depth and mood. A bespoke bed provides drama in the luxurious master bedroom where textural fabrics mingle with a silk rug to create a cozy retreat. High-backed sofas ground the living room seating area, while a bespoke banquette and sculptural table hosts frequent family game nights. Dramatic gray built-ins provide a beautiful and functional backdrop in the family room, with a reading nook and…

In one of Torslanda’s popular residential areas, we find this converted property with a rural atmosphere and dating from the 18th century. The property’s three buildings were given their current design in the 1930s and the contemporary exteriors – wooden facades, tiled roofs, carpentry and more – have been renovated with care.  Two of the buildings have also been renovated in the interior by Studio IN with well-thought-out material choices such as oak parquet and Höganäs clinker. You are struck by the large open surfaces which, thanks to windows in all directions, bathe in light. In several places it is open to the ridge and the visible trusses give the indoor environments a charming setting.
