This home by Tara Benet Design Studio, was created by combining two apartments on a penthouse floor in Greenwich Village. The finishes and design are bold and luxurious but still functional for a large family. Janicke and Erik wanted a home with many nuances. When they met, the starting position was a little calmer.- We had quite recently renovated each apartment, both painted in muted and “safe” trend colors. They were nice but similar to all other apartments for confusion, and we thought it was getting a little boring, says Janicke. When they moved together, they therefore quickly agreed to think new.- We really wanted our shared home to show who we were, and that we should not be afraid to make untraditional choices. A color expert was called in to get flow and harmony between the color tones. The result: A home full of energy that reflects the couple who live here. This custom estate home was designed for one of Reena Sotropa In House Design Group’s industry partners, Maillot Homes. The home is 8761 square feet with 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. One of the most common questions designers have been asked about this home is if the house as 4 kitchens. The short answer would be “yes”, The long answer would be “no”, this home has one formal kitchen, one pantry kitchen, a butler’s kitchen and a bar kitchen! The formal kitchen in this home is extensively large, to put things in perspective the island itself is 16 feet long! Sometimes having so much space can actually be a design obstacle. The large footprint of this kitchen provided a constant challenge to bring the design back to a more personal scale. With such a large space designers knew that they needed to break up the millwork finishes. They chose to…
The Extruded House by MCK Architecture & Interiors Studio, is a bespoke design peculiar to the idiosyncrasies of the lives it seeks to provide shelter to. It is in it’s absolute modesty and simplicity that the Extruded House captures both the eye of the inhabitant and the design savvy public. It is prepared to celebrate the old with the new by unashamedly sitting them side by side and letting them be judged. It provides a contemporary line of thinking about what is a home, and various unique details challenge us to dare to be different. The solid bones of a federation-esq home have been retained and improved to provide a logical flow of circulation through the private parts of the home. Here spaces are provided to allow family members to find the quiet, or the solitude needed at the end of a busy day. Moving towards the rear of the…
This project was a full home renovation for a young family that purchased a “new-to-them” home in the early weeks of 2020. The home purchased was renovated to suit a style that didn’t match their aesthetic; that’s when they called Reena Sotropa In House Design Group to essentially re-renovate and furnish the entire house to make it feel more like it was theirs. Studio clients have an incredibly colourful and playful personal style that they wanted to reflect in the re-design of their own home. A saturated Kelly Green ceiling paired with bamboo trellis wallpaper in white and green makes for a bold first impression in the entry foyer. Rather than hanging traditional artwork, their clients owned a collection of beautiful kimonos and fans gathered from their travels and passed down from family that designers wanted to feature somewhere in their house. The hallway leading to their newly renovated home…
Studio 11:11’s clients approached them upon moving back to their native NZ, after having lived overseas for some time. They returned home during the covid pandemic and wanted to create a place that they could quickly settle into with their young family. Designers curated a selection of vintage and antique furnishings paired with more modern design classics for a slightly familiar feeling to the spaces. A natural, earthy and textural palette of finishes was used to give a sense of tranquility and comfort in their new home. The design of this house is exciting in many ways. It is Manhattan’s first Certified Passive House, Certified LEED for Home Platinum, and it is in a NYC Landmark district. The renovation consisted of restoring the Renaissance Revival style front façade, originally built in 1888-89 by Thom Wilson, by bringing back the ornamental details and the entire stoop entry that was previously removed in the early 1940’s. Baxt Ingui Architects, P.C. built upon the unique design of this brownstone by including a rooftop, a rear addition, and multiple architectural details. Some of these architectural features include archways to create a more open floor plan, a sculptural interior staircase, larger doors, larger windows for more natural light without compromising air leakage, and efficient and cost-effective mechanical systems, including solar panels to run the entire house. In addition, the five-story townhouse also has several amenities including a finished cellar, wine room, billiards…

All over the world, everyone knows about Alpine chalets, but Scandinavians also know how to create incredibly beautiful mountain lodges in their many ski resorts. For example, this by RESIDENSHEM Studio in Sweden looks just idealistic from the outside, and even somewhat resembles its counterparts in the Alps. But inside, we immediately understand that we are in Scandinavia – stylish dark shades, modern furniture, simple lines and exquisite materials. One feels that the interior of this apartment in Stockholm is slightly shabby by time, as if it froze somewhere in the middle of the last century. The decor has a lot of retro furniture and details, on the walls there are paintings and photographs as if from the past. It is thanks to these nostalgic notes that the interior turned out to be so real and lively, as if more than one generation of the owner’s family lived here! The Riding House is a 17th century former stable in Dorset that has been transformed into a theatrically decorated house. The strong colors and original floor plan are the signature of this unusual brick-fronted house. Set on the estate of St Giles House, owned by one of England’s oldest families, Lord and Lady Shaftesbury, it is furnished and decorated in a style that respects its rural and equine feel. This former stable has been renovated with an equestrian theme and has eight individually designed bedrooms set in the horses’ stalls. The main living area is a central double height room, which has retained its old exposed beams and restored wooden floor. The period furnishings give the place a luxurious rustic feel, and you feel as though you are entering a piece of ancient history with contemporary comforts.
